Position overview Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks which can range from $366,705 - $539,311 (FY24-25 50th AAMC). The posted UC salary scales () set the base pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. Position description The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Irvine -School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Radiation Oncologist for all ranks in the HS Clinical Professor Series, In-Residence Series, and all ranks in the Professor of Clinical 'X' Series (Assistant, Associate, In-Residence, and/or Full Professor levels). Duties will include clinical care, teaching of residents and students, and scholarly activity. Priority will be given to candidates with a proven track record of academic productivity, as demonstrated through high-impact publications and/or grant funding. Skills conducive to practice-building will be especially valued, as well as an ability to work collaboratively within and outside of the Department.
Applicants must possess an M.D. degree (or equivalent), be board certified in Radiation Oncology (or eligible by time of appointment) and hold an unrestricted CA medical license (by time of appointment).
Criteria for the Professor of Clinical 'X' Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criteria for appointment in this series.
Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and University service.
Criteria for the In-Residence Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to develop an independent translational research program in neuroscience, cancer, and/or radiation biology. Research skills and interests should include but are not restricted to the study of radiation and/or chemotherapy effects in the intact CNS and on the development of multipronged strategies for ameliorating normal tissue injury following cytotoxic cancer treatments. Highly desirable in experience in basic radiation sciences, cancer/stem cell biology, cognitive testing, and in particular, the micromorphometric and immunohistochemical analysis of neuronal structure and synaptic integrity. The incumbent will also be expected to develop an independent line of investigation and to fund the majority of these research activities through extramural funding. To facilitate these efforts, protected research time and start-up funds will be provided. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching curriculum for the radiation oncology residents.
Located at the University of California, Irvine Cancer Center in Irvine, California, the Department of Radiation Oncology is an integral part of the NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Department is equipped with a robust blend of technology, including a dedicated HDR brachytherapy suite and an intraoperative unit. Further equipment upgrades are planned. The Department features a four-year Radiation Oncology residency training program and a Medical Physics training program. The Department has an active Radiation Biology Division that currently ranks among the top programs in the nation with respect to NIH funding. The Department participates in NRG/RTOG and SWOG and encourages investigator-initiated clinical and translational trials.
